U.S. Nights Too

After the Sabbath had ended, the woman went outside the hut to speak with The Maker.
“Oh Great One, you have given my mate the luxury of free will, I wish this same benefit. What then will you give me?”
The Great One turned the right side of its face from male to the left side, which was female. Then she spoke, “Woman, what do you want?”
The woman sat and pondered then spoke, “In my mate, I want security, love and affection.”
The Great One thought on how giving what the woman wanted would conflict with the free will already given the man, so The Wise One said, “You will have all you ask, but it will not be as easy for you. Instead of simply giving you what you wish, you must teach man to behave as you want.”
The woman took the first request of security and wondered how she could teach her man to provide everyday as she had by picking fruits, nuts and berries. “He has not the patience for this she concluded.”
“Then teach him to hunt from the animals on the land. The fish bone needle you use to sew could be enlarged and put upon the end of a stick for hunting.,” The Great One added.
The woman agreed, but then wondered how she could get her mate to provide affection during the long cold nights. The Almighty Maker aided the woman yet again, “Teach man to make fire that you use to cook food. Have him tend it though the night to keep you both warm. When warm he will not be so grumpy and instead be full of the affection you seek.”
The woman agreed, but wondered how she could get him to love her. The Maker smiled, “This one is easy enough. Use the wheels you use to grind your grain. Show the man how he can place them together to make a cart. When he can appreciate your intelligence, he will find that he can not live without you.”
The woman nodded and then set off to do as The Maker said. She taught the man how to make a spear, fire and a cart. The man at first was overjoyed with the shared knowledge from his wife. He hunted, he kept the fire all night long, he used the cart to gather firewood. After awhile, this newly acquired knowledge began to feel a lot like work.
Man protested to his Maker and said that he no longer wanted the woman, the hunting, the fire or the cart in his life. “Life was so much easier before my soul mate was formed.”
“What do you want,” asked the male side of the Maker.
“I no longer want a soul mate,” the man replied.
“She will be gone this evening,” the female side of the maker announced.
That day, the woman gave birth to a . The man refused to hunt, make a fire or use the cart. When evening came the woman vanished and the man had to care for the infant himself. There was no one to hunt. There was no fire. When the man went to place the infant in the cart to push it while he gathered nuts and berries, he realized that he had banned the use of the invention. The man sat down and wept, not only for how much his mate improved his life, but also for how much he missed her.
“Oh, Great One, what have I done? Please send me back my helpmate. I will appreciate, love and make her feel secure.
In an instant the woman was back and caring for the . The man kissed her on the forehead. He then ran out to get her the flowers she loved for her hair. Once the woman was asleep, the infant raised his head to his maker and asked, “Oh, Great One, what kind of parents have you sent me?”
The maker sighed deeply and sent back the butterfly to amuse the .

Touch,
T.y. It's to make us think about how there's more than one side to every tale.
