US Nights The Fifth Knight

Moo Cow perused her farm. The sheep were placid. The hens content. Well, except for Mable who was rumored to have had a nervous breakdown. The pigs were, well disgusting, but at least they were happy. The farmer was grouchy, but he was eighty-five. So all was peaceful, tranquil and otherwise boring. Moo Cow put down her book. She wanted adventure. The kind she read about. She wanted excitement. The kind she dreamed of. She wanted to travel to experience new cultures, people and things, especially food.
Moo Cow put down her copy of "Morte de Arthur."
"Sigh, if only I were king like Arthur. I would make some changes and make this farm an exciting place to be."
Then the most profound idea came to her. Why couldn't she be king of the farm? She would rule with a gentle but firm hoof. With this thought she slammed down her book and went off in search of knights for her realm. She first came across the hens, but they ran in their house when they saw her. Next she came upon the sheep, but again they just giggled. Finally, she came upon the pigs eating at the trough. "Hmm, five pigs. We shall certainly then have to have a round table, or in this case trough," she said out loud.
Murphy the pig looked at Remus his sibling, "What did she mumble?"
Remus grinned, "Something about food, I think."
This concept brought the pigs to attention and all eyes were on Moo Cow.
She gave her speech,"Great and noble lords, I am in need of chivalrous knights to protect my realm and ensure the safety of my crown-"
Remus interrupted, "What crown?"
Moo Cow realized that she had forgotten this very important accessory. "I will be right back," she responded and ran to create a newspaper crown.
Once back at the sty she continued,"Again, my lords, I seek those who would become my knights-"
Murphy turned his head sideways, "Wait just a minute, I thought this had something to do with food."
Moo Cow sought to win the loyalty of the members of the round trough, so she responded in kind, "Yes, food, of course food. What knight can protect and honor their king without food."
Remus added, "you mean queen. Um, you're a cow. Cows are female, so you must mean queen."
Moo Cow pondered this for a second and then replied, "Oh, yes, of course, your queen, I am your queen."
Murphy added, "With lots of food."
"Yes, lots and lots of food," Moo Cow agreed.
"Well, where is it," another pig added.
"The food," Moo Cow questioned.
"Yes, the food, where's the food,"Remus asked testily.
"Oh, well, I will have to go and get the food. Yes I will get the food as a feast to my coronation and your knighthood."
"Whatever, just get the food," Murphy said impatiently.
Moo Cow ran back home. All she had in her frig. were some eggs. These held a bad flash back in her mind, so she put them back gingerly. She then looked in her other cupboards, nothing. Oh, dear, she had forgotten to raid the farmer's kitchen that week. There was nothing for the knights, so there was no queen. She took off her newspaper crown and used it instead to do the crossword puzzle.
