Night Seven: After The Happily Ever After

Oh, I almost forgot my story.
Hmm, think, think think as Pooh Bear say. Okay, here it goes...
Once Upon a Time After,
Yes, after, as in "they lived happily ever after." Well the fairy tales always end with marriage. Is there life after marriage? This tale attempts to see if there are any stories in the happy part.
So, Cinderella married the prince and became a princess. Her stepsisters and stepmother moved in with her per the original tale. So did they really change to the good after change of location and increased social status? Hmm, the one and only factor that could cause change to the good would have been that they are subject to the will of Princess Cinderella. But how much of this could she actually control? Let's explore this, shall we. in the Non-Disney version?
Picture this scene then. The two wicked stepsisters are reclining in lounges with their self mutilated feet up on pedestals. Per the original story one cut off her big toe and the other her heel to attempt to fit into the glass slipper. Ewww, what a bloody glass slipper. Moving on.
Wicked Step Mother, "This is just dreadful that we are designated to live merely as guests within Cinderella's castle instead of one of you two being princess. And look at what you have sacrificed. Certainly, you will both walk with a gimp even when healed. Who will marry you now?"

1st sister: "Oh, Mother, we will live better here in the castle than with any man.

Wicked Step Mother: "With her? You call living in her shadow living WITH her?"

2nd Sister: "I agree with mother. I still want to find a man to marry, but I'd rather heal my heel first."

Wicked Step Mother: And isn't it just awful that the queen is so ill. Now Cinderella, though but a princess is treated like a queen. Hmmm...I have an idea.

The wicked step mother then switches the queen's medicine with other medicine from the doctor's bag. The queen dies that night. The wicked step mother then woos the poor mourning king by comforting him in his moment of greatest sorrow. It then is not long before the king announces that The Wicked Step Mother is to be queen. I'm sure he called her by her first name. Anyway, even though a princess, the wicked step mother makes Cinderella be at her beck and call. Though she no longer wears rags, she is still the slave she was before she married the prince. Cinderella attempts to tell this to the king and prince, but they can see no wrong with the wicked step mother. When Cinderella then bears a , the queen acts like she likes the in front of others, but is constantly putting him in harms way when no one else is around. When the prince dies from falling from a window, Cinderella blames the queen for not watching the , but all think that Cinderella is being too harsh on the old woman.
Unable to live under the passive aggressive realm of the queen and the non confrontational attitude of her husband, Cinderella again calls upon her fairy godmother.

Cinderella: "Godmother, wave your wand, bring back my , rid me of the queen and my step sisters, and open the eyes of my husband and the king."

Godmother: "I will do as you wish, but all goes back as it was at midnight."

So Cinderella had one night of bliss again with her and affectionate husband. When the clock struck Midnight, though all was back as it was before.

And in answer to the question, does marriage alone make you happy, the answer then is "no". You've got to pick a man with a back bone for one. Don't let evil people live with you, even if you are related. And third, you've got to work at happiness even in the ever after.
