Compassion In Animals

I read an article in this month's National Geographic on seals. It was pretty funny, as the camera man met one and immediately she gave him a baby penguin to eat. After several attempts of him not accepting the penguin, she got mad at him and snorted bubbles out her nose. But this didn't stop her from scaring off another seal who came up behind him. She wasn't going to let anyone else hurt her new friend, even if he wasn't being polite, lol! Anyway, she even came back to the same spot the next day to meet him. This kind of behavior could be found in my dogs at home.
I really find it interesting when species show compassion towards others not of their own. It reflects a higher sense of empathy some humans do not even display. I didn't know seals could be like this.
I think the camera man should have accepted the penguin, though out of respect. It's akin to going to someone's home and not eating what's served, lol!
I'd blow bubbles out my nose too.

Animal's 'logic' is very hard for us to understand as it is so simple. We try too hard to read far to much into their behavior.
Their primary drive is survival. I'd like to re-tell the light-hearted view of a sheep and the way it sees the world and how it's brain works :
Yawn (waking up) - there's no danger is there? Well, I'll eat some grass then as long as there's no danger about. I don't suppose there's a shag going is there? - as long as there's no danger. Ah well, some more grass then as long as there's no danger and no chance of a shag. Getting tired now so better get back to sleep as long as there's no danger. Yawn!
So, back to my PC (as long as there's no danger and no chance of - well I'll leave the rest to the imagination)
When my cat brought in a pheasant, I don't think it was a present - I just don't think it knew what to actually do with it.
I don't think we will ever know what really goes on in an Animal's mind as ours are too complex and theirs is so simple.

"恻隐之心,人皆有之". Humans have compassion too. Just humans usually hide it when they grow up. I sometimes see some people seem to be poor. But I ignore them because I don't know whether they are cheats.

Please don't disturb a chicken before he hatches.

recently i had been losing weight due to not eating properly with this rotating work shift I do.So one day there was a prize rat outside, killed and left for me by the cats. They looked puzzled when i scooped it up with a shovel and tossed over the fence.Been trying to eat better since then.
