Trump tweets video of himself slamming and punching ‘CNN’

President Trump shared a video Sunday on Twitter of himself slamming WWE President Vince McMahon to the ground and punching him with the CNN logo superimposed over McMahon’s head, escalating his recent attacks aimed at the news media.

The footage, taken from “WrestleMania 23” in 2007, shows Trump approaching McMahon outside of the ring, using a clothesline move to knock him down, and punching him in the head before turning to walk away. The altered clip mocking CNN recently appeared on a Reddit. com message board.

The president’s tweet included a pair of disparaging hashtags: “#FraudNewsCNN” and “#FNN.”

“It is a sad day when the president of the United States encourages violence against reporters,” the network said in a statement. “Clearly, [White House press secretary] Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied when she said the president had never done so.

The network added: “Instead of preparing for his overseas trip, his first meeting with Vladimir Putin, ‎dealing with North Korea and working on his health care bill, he is involved in juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office. We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his.”

Trump’s latest Twitter assault comes three days after his controversial tweets attacking MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski’s appearance.

On Thursday, the president lashed out at Brzezinski with an unusually harsh personal attack aimed at both her and her co-host, Joe Scarborough.

“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore),” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!”

The tweets sparked widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle, with Republican lawmakers urging Trump to tone down the rhetoric and others openly questioning the president’s mental stability. The White House defended Trump’s attack, saying it was an acceptable response to the “Morning Joe” pair’s criticism of the president.

“When he gets attacked, he’s going to hit back,” Sanders told reporters. “I think the American people elected somebody who’s tough, who’s smart, and who’s a fighter. And that’s Donald Trump. And I don’t think that it’s a surprise to anybody that he fights fire with fire.”

Sanders also dismissed the notion that Trump encourages violent behavior.

“The president in no way, form, or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence,” Sanders said.

Aides told the Washington Post they were worried that Trump’s feud with “Morning Joe” was distracting from his feud with CNN, which they thought was more winnable.

Late last month, CNN retracted a story that suggested a questionable link between an ally of President Trump and a Russian investment fund. The network announced the resignations of the reporters who wrote it and issued an apology.

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press condemned President Trump's "glorified" message of "physical violence" on Sunday, after he tweeted an edited video clip of a wrestling match between himself and his media rival CNN.

"We condemn the president's threat of physical violence against journalists. This tweet is beneath the office of the presidency. Sadly, it is not beneath this president," Bruce Brown, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, said in a statement. "No one should be threatened with physical harm for doing their jobs. Journalists are your neighbors, they're your friends."

The video clip from an old wrestling appearance shows Trump attacking and subduing a person whose face is obscured by a CNN logo.

Trump's Sunday tweet was in the latest in his frequent public attacks on CNN, which he has often slammed for being "fake news."

Brown said the role of journalism is critical to democracy, pointing to the provisions made in the Constitution.

"[The Founding Fathers] wrote that 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances,'' Brown said in part.

"Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of our democracy. The press are the people's window into the halls of power, and most importantly, they are the people's check on that power. When the president attacks the press, he attacks the people."

CNN also condemned the tweet in a Sunday statement.

"It is a sad day when the president of the United States encourages violence against reporters," a CNN spokesperson told The Hill.

To me, it doesn't matter "WHEN" that punching CNN video happened. But it does matter to me, a POTUS temperament, behavior, attitude, personality, language, image, ... who represents for USA. I can't agree with him. I feel so sad that our country's reputation ruined by Trump. It is very important to me that is USA's reputation. How can he make America great again by acting like this???

Whatever Mika wants to have plastic surgery is non of our business nor Trump business. Why did Trump had to publicly criticize her "low I.Q.", "crazy" and "bleeding from face-lift"? Trump is POTUS, he won the election, so don't disgrace himself by bully cyber attacking her. For Trump's own good, stop stir-up those childish acts. Those things are "water under the bridge", "let bygone be bygone". Trump, you are the leader of USA and the World, please protect your image and reputation, please act like a leader, a POTUS. I really don't want to see those ridiculous tweeting on internet. I really want our country leads by an intelligent person. Stop tweeting, stop make scene for international laughingstock.

There are hundred of things for Trump to do, health care, North Korea nuclear threat, ISIL terror's attacks, the national debts, China economy is growing to exceed USA, Russia internet hacking, ..... How can Trump spend time on those tweeting??

I am just an ordinary woman and I wish USA the best. God forbid Trump keep tweeting. Enough already, stop tweeting.

9999maniacs,

Trump made USA become "laughingstock" for the world. If he didn't post those tweeting, we wouldn't know. But he posted to disgrace himself. Shame on him.

Agreed, a man in the the most powerful position in the free world and this is what we are seeing. Truly sad for all of us, and not just for Americans.

The Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978, 44 U.S.C. §§ 2201–2207 will preserve this for future generations to look back and say 'WTF', like most are saying now

I am very worry about Trump's bizarre and insane behaviors. Trump tweeting attack people because he can't swallow his pride. How can he be the "Commander-in- chief" of this great country? He raised the doubts of his mental illness.
